Faith Plus Nothing

"We certainly do not ascribe to sensationalizing prophecy to get the world's attention. But recent events (late August and early September) certainly give us cause for thinking the trumpet call that will cause the believer to be 'caught up' is probably nearer than most would like to believe."

That was the first sentence Les wrote in the What in the World section of the October - December 2000 Newsletter. The terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001 were among the events that, over the next 25 years, pointed (in our minds) to the Lord's eminent return. Anyone who reads news headlines knows our world is no less tumultuous now than it was at that time a quarter century ago. As 2025 comes to a close, we look around and observe the social strife, political unrest, unsettling technology (such as artificial intelligence), as well as many other ominous signs and ask ... "how much longer will you tarry, Lord?"

Les expected to see the rapture in his lifetime. It was his heart's desire to meet Christ in the air rather than, as he put it, "by way of the grave". He also understood, however, that it may not be the Lord's plan for him and accepted that fact. Les was in good company, as countless saints over the centuries have waited in expectation to hear the last trumpet, only to face physical death. To quote Les from Book #42 "I think you all realize that the apostle Paul honestly thought that the Rapture would take place in his lifetime. At least he certainly wrote with that in mind. And then of course it wasn't until he was about to face martyrdom that he realized that he was not going to see the coming of the Lord. But if Paul thought the Lord was going to come in the 1st Century, then we'd better be ready in the 21st." The expectation of the calling out of the body is sacrosanct. We are always to be looking, watching, expecting. Regardless of the number of wars, special moons, natural disasters, or power-hungry politicians that come and go, we are still looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ!

Thanksgiving Prayer

Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day, we bow our hearts to You and pray.
We give You thanks for all You've done, especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son.
For beauty in nature, Your glory we see, for joy and health, friends and family,
For daily provision, Your mercy, and care, these are the blessings You graciously share.
So today we offer this response of praise, with a promise to follow You all of our days.
~ Mary Fairchild

Note from Greg

As believers, we watch the world around us and can see the signs of the times. But until the trumpet sounds Satan is working harder and faster. Among other things, I think of him as operating in four dimensions: distract, disrupt, destroy, and discourage. The four Ds.

He is out to afflict not only individual believers, but nations, churches, and families. Thankfully, we have the word of God, prayer and the Holy Spirit to combat such a force. Of course, much of the scripture is given to strengthen us. In Ephesians 6:11-17, Paul instructs us to put on the whole armor of God - truth, righteousness, the Gospel, Faith, Salvation, and the Word of God.

"11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
"

Also, David, who knew and defeated many enemies, gives so much inspired and encouraging counsel. One of my favorites is Psalms 37:3-5 "Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

Ephesians 6:18-20 "18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
"

Let us continue on, pray for us and we will pray for you ... and let us all pray for the Peace of Jerusalem!
