Dear Friends,
With the changing of seasons and cooler temps, we are entering an eagerly awaited stretch of programming with the books of the Bible that Les emphasized as doctrine for the Body of Christ - Paul's letters to the Church - The Epistles. It begins with the book of Romans and the much anticipated "Roman's Road to Salvation". Those physical structures-built millennia ago have long symbolized the path man travels to come to a relationship with God. The first stop on our metaphorical road is Romans 1:16 ~ For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. That Gospel of Christ and the fact that it was shared with the Gentiles was a new and controversial concept, especially to the Judaizers who remained in their legalism. Next, we have Romans 3:23 ~ For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; This is a verse that Les referred to as one of the "absolutes of scripture" we must recognize we are all sinners and those sins are accountable to a perfect God. And how are we made accountable? According to a lot of preaching we hear, we must clean up our acts, turn from sin and change our lives. Not according to our next stop on the road, Romans 5:8 ~ But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Yet, apart from Christ and his shed blood ... Romans 6:23 ~ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. In this verse we see both the disease and the cure. It gives us a standing in Christ as seen in Romans 8:1 ~ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Many times, Les recommend Romans 8 to someone struggling in their faith. He was known to advise folks to read the entire chapter every day until it "sinks in". And Paul wrote that to us righteousness Romans 4:24-25 ~ shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. As Les said ... that is a promise God made through the Apostle Paul! We can rest on that promise. Praise be to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

We receive many questions about the Bible Les preferred. For many years, Les used exclusively the Old Scofield Study Bible with 1917 notes, King James Version. The Bible that is shown on TV is a J. Vernon McGee Reference Bible, King James Version that can only be obtained from the ministry "Thru the Bible Radio." Although the current edition does not contain all the references as the Bible used on the program.
Although it has its opponents, Les stood by the King James as being the most accurate English translation of scripture available. Forty-seven scholars, experts in Hebrew, Aramaic, Latin, and Greek, spent 7 years pouring over each word of the manuscripts of the Textus Receptus. After one group of linguists meticulously transcribed a portion of text, it was sent for review by the next group and so on until all were satisfied that the translation was accurate. Because the transcribers included Anglicans, Calvinists and Reformers, it is more bipartisan than other translations, especially the 15th century contemporaries. The discovery of the 2000-year-old Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 confirms the accuracy of the King James Version as well. We believe that God maintained the purity of the Inspired Word in the King James Bible.
